Woman of Matchless Beauty, Park Jung Gum: Episode 5-14

This drama is targetted for 50 episodes and I am not sure whether it has enough substance to carry to the 50th episode. I will comment at every 10 episodes or so. We have the revelation that Jung Kum has a missing son. I think the poor boy got lost while she was sorting out the messy affair with her husband. Then an orphanage actually wrote a letter that a boy matching her son’s description was found and requested them to identify the boy. The evil stepmother who intercepted the letter told the orphanage that he is not the one when he was rightfully Jung Kum’s son. No wonder her own daughter said that she is worse that the most hardened criminal. Although Yoo Ra did informed anonymously by phone where her missing son is, Jung Gum failed to find him and the story on that just freeze like that.

Somehow, no matter how the Stepmother forced the issue, she can never get Jung Kum to admit her status as her father’s legal wife. I loved it when Jung Gum still called her their ‘housemaid’ ajumma. That always wiped the smirk off that woman’s face. Anyway, she is out to get the old man’s money for her daughter so she always says.

Then entered Han Kyung Soo who has an arranged marriage match with Yoo Ra but he has developed affections for Jung Gum but I do not get the same vibes coming from Jung Gum though. His feelings for her is so strong that he is willing to face the wrath of his foster parents which he never had dared and cancelled the engagement. When he told his mother that he is in loved with another woman, she asked him ‘Which household’s daughter is it?’ He told her that she is a divorced woman with two sons and he does not know what her feelings for him is at yet. I think Yoo Ra cannot take the blow that she lost to Jung Gum and soon Yoo Ra burst her own bubble by telling Kyung Soo that Jung Gum attracted him as a revenge because she, Yoo Ra was the woman Jung Gum’s husband had the affair with. Would a Korean man still married a woman after a revelation like that? Look at Golden Bride’s Kim Young Min and all his wife did was dated someone in college, I wonder.

Yoo Ra seems to fall for Kyung Soo in a big way. I guess it is her pride because she can have any men she wanted and to loose to an ajumma like Jung Gum, I think it hurts her ego. I saw a similiar example in Snow in August, where the vixen stole the Ajumma’s husband but the Ajumma married the man the vixen loved. I really called that retribution. Anyway despite Jung Gum’s efforts to demolish Kyung Soo’s affection for her, it was to no avail because he did not turned up for the engagement. He met with Yoo Ra later to apologise and told her right off he loved Jung Gum. She took it bad. First she ‘electrified’ her hair with a crazy perm and then tried to commit suicide.

It was nicely done that Kyung Soo came to Jung Gum’s house and paid his respect as the future son-in-law and all was going on nicely with Kyung Soo wanting to take Jung Gum and her son to the States. Stepmother and Jung Gum’s father came by the house upon finding out about the plans and made a huge, huge scene and while Jung Gum’s mother was defending her daughter, she suffered a stroke arguing with the pair.

Suddenly Kyung Soo goes to the States alone, you see Jung Gum taking care of all the household and helping her mother with her theraphy. Surprise, surprise you get Han Kyung Soo marrying Yoo Ra and it is the saddest couple you ever seen in a wedding. The ones smiling away are the older generation. It is a marriage heading for disaster.

Then it is 2 years later.
