2007 MBC Drama H.I.T (Homicide Investigation Team)

I first wrote about H.I.T back in May of 2007, bragging how the series ended cute even though I did not follow the series at that time. Though a bit late, I finally watched the 20 parts series. I should got around this series sooner – it’s addictive and fast-paced. I was glued to my laptop till the wee hours of the night. Who knew Ha Jung Woo could be so appealing and had all sorts of charisma !?!!

H.I.T revolves around officer Cha Soo Kyung played by Ko Hyun Jung, she’s assigned to be the leader of the newly formed Homicide Investigation Team where they investigate serious crime. We get to see them attending crime scenes and using resources available to find out what exactly has occurred. The heroine, Cha Soo Kyung, was once a happy go lucky girl, all changes when her boyfriend was killed by a serial killer. She’s haunted by the incident as she failed to fire the gun at the serial killer which led to his escape. She later joined the investigation team with the sole purpose to catch the serial killer. As the series progress, we’ll see her learn to let go of her past, working with different personalities among her team, and falling in love with the District Attorney, Kim Jae Yoon, from the Prosecutor’s Office.

I don’t quite like officer Cha Soo Kyung. She let her emotions take over rational thinking and I can not help but dislike her on various parts of the series. She was completely unprofessional when she learns all evidences are against her ‘oppa’ in a murder case. She steals the evidences from the crime scene and lies to her team members. When Jae Yoon confronts her about the incident, she flat out denied the accusations. And her punishment – the superior only transfer her to the Academy. Isn’t stealing evidences from a crime scene a serious violation?

Now I would not finish a series without being attracted to the main character, in this case, prosecutor Kim Jae Yoon play by the charismatic Ha Jung Woo. He’s cool and collected while working, and playful when it comes to his girlfriend Soo Kyung. Like Soo Kyung, he’s also haunted by his past as he was kidnapped when he was little. Pity that the writers completely forget about this story and didn’t care to elaborate further.

While the romantic scenes in H.I.T are lacking, it offers a good amount of spark between the couple in the romance department. The first half of the series was thrilling and intense, it’s also the period where Jae Yoon courts Soo Kyung, from Seoul to HongKong and back to Seoul. It wasn’t until episode 8 where the kiss took place and sealed their ‘fate’.

Did you know that Ko Hyun Jung is 7 years Ha Jung Woo’s senior? In an interview, I think they were asked how do they address each other. She said, ‘Jung Woo ah’. He said, ‘Noona’. She does look a tad mature than Ha Jung Woo, but they do have good on screen chemistry so age is just a number :)

So what are these two up to these days?

Ha Jung Woo is the IT actor in Korean cinema these days – starring in Kim Ki Duk movies & other art house movies has raised his profile. He has a couple of movies open this year including the current mega hit, The Chaser. I’m looking forward to his movie ‘My Dear Enemy’ with Jeon Do Yeon, set to release later this year. I think the word ‘cool’ describes Ha Jung Woo best. Have you seen his image off-creen? He’s a stylish man, and to add to that, he has this rugged look to him that makes him all the more attractive.

Ko Hyun Jung has been casted to star opposite Kwon Sang Woo in the upcoming SBS Drama ‘Daemul’ (aka Big Fish). Ever since her comeback in 2005 – her leading men in tv dramas are all younger than her, her year of birth is 1971. Her co-stars: Spring Days (Jo In Sung, 1981), What’s Up, Fox (Chun Jung Myung, 1980), H.I.T Homicide Investigation Unit (Ha Jung Woo, 1979), and the upcoming drama Big Fish (Kwon Sang Woo, 1976)

This is one of my best loved series for the year 2007 deserving of a place in my video library with a purchase of its DVD.

I believe that Kim Jae Yoon has one of the best romantic ideas in a k-drama coming with these fresh wooing ideas for almost loss of identity as a woman, Cha Soo Kyung.

Who can forget the sushi dinner he brought for her and lending his shoulder for her to rest her head. He is always concerned twhether she is eating or not. His over concerned for her safety when she was stabbed and then went missing in Hong Kong. I believe that Soo Kyung mentioned that it is the first time a man response to her call so quickly. He romanced her on board a luxury liner turning her into a sexy woman and Go Hyun Jung does have very long legs. He thought her to play the roulette and played the piano for her. I think he is the only one man who see her as a woman who needs his protection.

When they finally made it as a couple, who can forget the silly code names for kisses and love notes. There is so many hliarious moments with him asking for ‘loose change’ when they were trying to hide their relationship for the team only to be ‘interrogated’ later by her team for the truth.

Who can forget at the end when the team handcuffed them together so that they can take the relationship one step further. The early date was to be dinner and movie. When Soo Kyung was getting forward to get on the way with it, Jae Yoon was so cute that he should be the one making the advances and he has not showered yet.

Although the romance is not the main part of the drama which is a fresh approach but the few they had was memorable enough.

I am looking forward to see her with Kwon Sang Woo in Daemul. I hope they will ‘steam’ up the scenes. Woman President? I think it will be more fiction than truth because it will be a long. long time before Korea will ever have a female President. In fact, it is noted that Dae Jang Geum is the only female physician in that higest position in history and up to today even the Korean’s President’s physician is still a man.

Beside the main casts, I like the chief of H.I.T. He provides comic relief moments by hitting and kicking his subordinates.

JY got defensive on a few occasions (1) he stuttered to find words when SK asked if he had been to a certain showgirls club, his respond was that he saw the documentary about showgirls on cable tv. (2) When they were on the boat cruise, SK didn’t have much clothes on, he immediately got up and said it wasn’t him [who took off her clothes].

The romance aspect of this drama is pretty much fast-paced. By episode 3, it was obvious that he has shown interest in her and she knows it too. The code name was cute: change=kiss, report=food, side room=car.

This was a really interesting korean detective/romance series. Loved it.

I just wish I can find it on DVD so I can watch it in better quality. It wasn’t that popular in my local korean dvd store, so they don’t stock it and I’m too cheap to pay regular online prices.

Oh, well, I can only hope I may come across it one day.

Glad to have found this page as HIT is also amongst my favorite K-series. I fell inlove with both leading characters and appreciated the hidden humour in dialogues.

…,i just found out this drama and i really love it love the twist and how the story begin and how it ends i hope they would do a part 2 of this drama even though it’s been a year since it was aired..
..,don’t agree with you about LT. Cha being unprofessional because of what happen in her past, for me it’s reasonable to be that way but like what Prosecutor Kim said she must know when she was crossing the line. I understand why she can’t let go of her past even though it’s been 14 years, one reason is her “oppa” died on the day of her birthday, just like what she said “i know i can’t blame “oppa” to be dead, we can’t do anything about that but why does it has to be on my birthday…” imagine how awful can it be, celebrating your birthday at the same time mourning about your love’s death…another reason is the perp got away because she hesitated for 10 mins, for 10 mins she could have still save her “oppa” but she hesitated to pull the trigger because it’s her first time to point a gun to someone and because of that decision the perp got away and her “oppa” died….and the most important reason why shes like that is because of the dying words or her “oppa” for her…”did you caught him?” that last dying words from her “oppa” haunted her so much, she don’t know how to answer it she couldn’t tell that the perp got away because she hesitated to shot the perp and she was so angry because her “oppa” didn’t even say i love you or i am sorry….for me that’s the past that she couldn’t forget so she trained herself so much for the day that she and the perp would meet again she would have the guts to capture the killer of her “oppa”….
